Athul was born and brought up in Edathua region, of Alleppey district in Kerala. His father is a daily wage labourer. His parents are not educated but they have a great desire to provide education for Athul and his younger brother.  Throughout his school years, Athul managed with used textbooks handed down by friends in the senior classes. Living in the flood prone lowlands, Athul’s family were affected by the floods that hit Kerala in 2018. Lack of clean drinking water and prevalence of water borne diseases add to the woes of the people in his community. Athul’s family lives in a small house gifted by the local Panchayath.

Amidst the daily challenges the family face, Athul managed to score 86 percent in his Class 10 examinations. He has opted for the Commerce stream and is studying in Class 12 now. Right from his young age he harboured the desire to join the Indian Army. Athul says that he has dedicated his life to protect his country and its people even at the cost of his own life. He wishes to enrol for NDA coaching classes to pursue his dream of becoming an Army officer. But his family has no means of fuelling his ambition. Without support Athul’s vision to serve the country will remain unfulfilled.
